Our Mission: Long-Term Solutions to Hunger. We are committed to coordinating hunger relief efforts in Tom Green County by facilitating programs that address the issue of hunger for today, tomorrow, and a lifetime. 

The Tom Green County (TGC) Hunger Coalition is a group of organizations and individuals taking action together to end hunger in our community. The TGC Hunger Coalition strategically assesses the structure and procedures of local food delivery systems, identifies resources and gaps, makes decisions for change, and implements action plans to ensure that more people have access to healthy and nutritious food. We galvanize the community behind the cause, empower community leaders, build long-term bonds of collaboration, maximize effective use of resources, and ensure mutual accountability for results.

Geographic Focus: Tom Green County, TX
Leadership Structure: The Steering Committee meets separately from the coalition to provide guidance, support, and strategic direction to the coalition. It is comprised of the chairpersons from each of the task groups. (Two-tiered Leadership Structure)

Community Assessment: Completed a Food Assessment Survey
General Coalition Activities/Projects: Annual West Texas Hunger Summit

 

Action Teams


Nutrition and Health

We provide nutrition education opportunities and/or health resources in the community to assist people to make healthier choices and reduce hunger as a health issue. 

Projects: Revitalization of the community garden at Fort Concho and monthly newsletters.

Awareness of Resources

We collect, create, and share research-based and community resources with a commitment to increasing equitable access to inform agencies and individuals in Tom Green County. 

Projects: Development of community resource guides for agencies and individuals.

Food Procurement

We work together to galvanize food and reduce immediate hunger through organizing emergency food needs for primary and secondary schools, local colleges and universities, and the San Angelo community. 

Projects: Blessing Boxes

Future Projects: Kids Eat Free summer feeding program

Public Meeting Schedule 

The Tom Green County Hunger Coalition meets on the second Wednesday each month from 1:30-2:30 p.m. Central Time.
