Action Teams

Child Hunger Action Team

The Child Hunger Action Team brings together organizations that work on child hunger. The co-chairs are from Aramark, the meals contractor for Lubbock ISD and the South Plains Food2Kids, a nonprofit providing weekend sacks to a majority of Lubbock ISD elementary schools. This team includes many church groups that provide weekend sacks to schools, the Children's Feeding Program Director for South Plains Food Bank, Frenship ISD meal site coordinator, communities in schools and many more. The Child Hunger Action Team has researched weekend sack programs and summer meals to better coordinate across programs and organizations. The team meets quarterly by zoom.

Food Access Action Team

The Double Up Food Bucks Advisory Team provides feedback and data to the Double Up Food Bucks Program Manager. The chair of the team is the Program Manager and the co-chair is the South Plains Food Bank GRUB Farm Director. Other team members include local farmers, market managers, grocery store managers, and SNAP education programs. This team meets quarterly by zoom.

Hunger & Horticulture Team

The Hunger and Horticulture team is chaired by the Director of Growing Together Texas and the AgriLife Extension Horticulture agent. The team meets every other month outdoors to tour a local farm, community or school garden and discuss team projects. This team has applied for and received two grants from the Lubbock Mayor’s Fitness Council. The first was for the purchase of pvc and plastic to build row covers for seven school and community gardens. The second grant supported Kids Farmers Markets. As of May 2021, we have held four Kids Farmers Markets, providing 57 kids with $5 of local produce each!
