Hunger Free Communities—Bastrop County

Mission: Hunger Free Communities Bastrop County serves as an alliance of community members working to educate, coordinate, and collaborate to make the most of resources for those impacted by hunger in Bastrop county. 

Guiding Values: Hunger Free Communities Bastrop County is goal oriented and forward moving. We seek to employ an accompaniment model of service by amplifying the voices of the community members we serve as we learn and grow alongside one another. We seek to create a more equitable system of access to reliable food resources in our community so all persons can thrive.

Geographic Focus: Bastrop County, TX
Leadership Structure: The leadership team has a two-tiered structure and meets separately from the coalition to provide guidance, support, and strategic direction. The top tier consists of two co-chairs, while the other is comprised of action team facilitators and AmeriCorps VISTA/THI staff, who share relevant responsibilities appropriately. Co-Chairs: Tresha Silva, Bastrop County Emergency Food Pantry & Support Center and Hillary Long, Bastrop County Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service (Two-tiered Leadership Structure)

Action Teams


Produce/Healthy Food Access Action Team

Improve access to reliable food resources, emphasizing fresh and local produce; Build the capacity of micro communities to grow produce for both education and consumption through community and backyard garden expansion efforts

Resource Communication Action Team

Amplify effective communication of resource availability across the county by partnering with other agencies serving the critical needs of Bastrop County community members
