Community Assessment Findings Case Study: Hunger Free Communities-Bastrop County

Last year, Hunger Free Communities-Bastrop County conducted a community assessment to understand how food insecurity is impacting the community. The goal of this assessment was not only to discern the need of their community but to tailor future programs that address the needs. The collected quantitative data for their assessment and conducted community listening sessions to depict the need in their community. Members of the coalition feel that the client stories serve as the most powerful piece of this assessment and helps to guide the coalition on what they should do next. The preliminary results of the assessment are now available and show where food can be found within the community and where there are gaps. In addition, the coalition found that some common themes found in this assessment were child and senior hunger along with transportation issues. A Draft of their Story Map can be found here.
In order to spread the word on these findings, the coalition plans to get on the county commissioner court agenda where they hope a presentation of the data will be given. In addition, the coalition is searching for an appropriate vehicle to house their assessment findings and are organizing a press release that will introduce the information to the public. Hunger Free Communities-Bastrop County also hopes to create a report of their findings to share with their board member along with those who are serving the public.
