Mission: To provide a network for food providers, community organizations, churches, schools, local businesses and concerned citizens to build relationships and communication for working together to comprehensively feed the hungry in Burnet County. 

The Burnet County Hunger Alliance (BCHA) is a volunteer group of food pantries, churches, school administrators, elected officials, area leaders, business owners and active citizens who have committed to end hunger in Burnet County. BCHA helps coordinate and direct people to existing resources and find gaps in service with the goal being three healthy meals daily to anyone in Burnet County who needs them.

Geographic Focus: Burnet County, TX
Leadership Structure: The leadership team meets separately from the coalition to provide guidance, support, and strategic direction to the coalition. (Two- tiered Leadership Structure)
Coalition Coordinator: Informal - Unfunded Coordination by Leadership
Community Assessment: Completed an informal assessment of the community though interviews of community leaders/stakeholders, identifying food desserts, and income and demographic information for the county. No written report available.
General Coalition Projects: The Hunger Alliance receives food annually, collected by a local elementary school, to distribute to food pantries. Developed and distributed a reusable grocery bag to food pantries and community kitchens with the listing of the food pantries and community kitchens and the times they are open on the front.

 

Action Teams


Project Group

Information Cards - Designed and updates business-size information cards listing food pantries on one side and community kitchens on the other.  Group prints, and cuts cards and distributes to members, school districts and first responders.

Hunger Awareness Month Project Group

Attends local city council meetings, commissioners court, and school board meetings in September to receive proclamations and educate community leaders during the month of September.

Backpack Buddies at Christmas Break

Provide funds for extra food for Marble Falls ISD students to take home an additional bag of food for the holidays.  Hunger Alliance members help fill the bags with the food utilizing Backpack Buddies operated by St. Peter’s Lutheran Church.

Public Meeting Schedule

Meetings are quarterly from noon to 1:00pm via Zoom.  Meetings are virtual until further notice.
